10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not always exciting for most of us. But it should be done. As the winter end and we begin looking forward to spring, something within us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve hoarded throughout the winter.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the interior of your home?
The exterior of your home could probably use some refreshing after a cold, wet winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the curb appeal of your home in Overland Park, and, even more important, will provide much-needed care and maintenance that will save money over the years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time to clean your gutters, because a lot of leaves and debris pile up during the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest during the spring, making a big mess in your gutters and downspouts if they aren’t properly cleaned.
Plus, bugs and critters are scavenging for places to build homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned will help prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains, and returning them to a nice appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Home window cleaning is a must for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows won’t give you much of a problem, but second and third floor windows are trickier to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is an exhausting chore, and it will require a lot of supplies, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You do not want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty home. That means you will want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is fast, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your home, patio furniture, concrete patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with not much effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they won’t permanently stain your home, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning might seem counter-productive because you will still be driving on it, but, a clean, well-cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washer can do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also consider adding a gravel border to your home’s driveway to really help it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your home’s patio gets the most use during the summer, so it can be easy to overlook it during the winter when you aren’t doing as much outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio can be in bad shape the first time you go onto it in the spring.
Soap and water – and a little hard work – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you see signs of mold or mildew, you might need to consider a more serious option, like power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Mold and moss are common roof issues in Overland Park. While you are cleaning the exterior of your home, it is a great time to pressure clean your home’s roof as well, but you will have to use a different process than what you use for most of your home’s exterior cleaning.
If you start to see streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the cause. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These particles cannot be wiped off of shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your home’s roof.
The ideal process for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and let it be. This solution will eliminate all organisms on your home’s roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Tidy up the Front
The front of your home is what most people passing by see, so make the best impression you can for visitors and for yourself! Returning home to a beautiful exterior will immediately improve your day, and it will probably motivate you to spend a lot more time outdoors.
Clean your porch with detergent and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front porch, and think about painting it for a fresh look! Clean overlooked areas such as the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Garden Tools
You’ll probably be spending more time outside, so spring is a wonderful chance to organize everything you will need for outdoor work.
Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment should all have an assigned area outside your home – somewhere that it is safe from harsh weather and out of sight so it is not a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring allows you to appreciate the exterior of your home so much more during the time of year that you spend the most time outdoors.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your yard, trees and garden bushes make a major impact on the overall look of your home.
Remove weeds around your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up places where you will be planting later on and brush off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all the bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After sitting unused for months, your grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are unappetizing, but they can also make you and your family sick.
Wipe it down to remove ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber or grill brush (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can sometimes get into food) and a detergent or degreaser.
You can probably complete these jobs after a few weekends but it will be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! Overland Park Pressure Washing offers professional home exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
